The Light Blues soared to the top of the SPL today with an emphatic 4-1 victory over relegation-certs Hamilton at Ibrox.

Steven Whittaker opened the scoring for the Gers on 19 minutes, finishing neatly from the right after a defence splitting pass from Steve Davis. Kris Boyd then scored the simplest header he`ll score for some time – fending off Mark McLaughlan`s challenge to head passed Cerny to make it two.

Boyd made it three on 65 minutes after a fine cut-back from Steven Naismith before Whittaker got his own double on 67, latching on to a fine through ball from Davis before coolly slotting the ball past Cerny with his left-foot.

It was a comfortable outing for Rangers, who never got out of first gear and were at times very lethargic. This was more than evident when a slack David Weir clearance led to the corner that brought Hamilton their sole consolation.

17 year-old Gregg Wylde, sporting the number 69, made his debut when he came on for Kenny Miller and Nacho Novo made his return from injury in a pleasing afternoon.

Rangers were at times very once-paced and need to show greater urgency at times.

Fortunately, Hamilton simply didn`t have the quality to exploit this, and after today`s display must be the early favourites for relegation.
