According to a report in Football Insider, Rangers are set to miss out on KV Kortrijk forward Teren Moffi, with the striker set to sign for Lorient in a deal said to be valued at around £7.3million.

The 21-year old Nigerian may have been on a shortlist at one point but the dual acquisitions of Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe mean that any move was little more than speculation, especially with Jermain Defoe and more importantly, Alfredo Morelos, still at the club.

Morelos had looked as if he was heading out the door – and he might yet move on this window – but his recent form and demeanour would suggest that he is more than happy to stick around in the hope of finally delivering silverware for long suffering Rangers fans.

The rumour mill has gone strangely quiet in the last week or so and the only names being linked with a move to Ibrox have been midfielders, there is certainly no requirement for another striker given the current form and number of those at the disposal of Steven Gerrard.

Is this the strongest Rangers forward line since 2008?

If El Bufalo is sold it will undoubtedly be an entirely different matter and you would expect Gerrard and Ross Wilson to have a list of potential targets lined up in case the Colombian international decides to leave, but it looks as though the relatively untested Moffi isn’t one of them.

With little over a week left to go before the window “slams” shut, Gers fans face a nervous wait to see if their hero will still be there, he isn’t quite irreplaceable, but it would be a sizeable hole to fill nonetheless.
