The pressure mounts on Rangers manager after another defeat sent them back down to fourth place in the league and a mammoth 18 points behind leaders Celtic.

The title is clearly beyond them now but even second place is looking a major doubt and Hibs will have something to say about third place as well.

With Rangers also out of the Scottish Cup it looks like Rangers could have to apply for the Intertoto cup if they want European football next season unless they get their act together NOW!

This just isn’t acceptable and it goes to show how bad it is when Celtic are terrible this season as well yet Rangers STILL find themselves 18 points adrift of them.

Onto the game then and Aberdeen won it 2-0 thanks to goals from Jamie Smith and Steve Lovell.

Alex McLeish was expected to make a few changes but the team was mostly unchanged with only Thomas Buffel dropping out for Dado Prso.

Rangers best chance of the first half came from a Bob Malcolm shot which came back out to Dado Prso who’s shot was then blocked by keeper Jamie Langfield.

Aberdeen’s opening goal came in the 33rd minute when Jamie Smith volleyed home a Ferne Snoyl cross. Aberdeen controlled the first half and went in at half-time with their lead doubled, Steve Lovell finished off after being set up by a Russell Anderson header.

Rangers made two changes at half-time, Steven Smith coming on for the injured Soti Kyrgiakos and Kris Boyd making way for Thomas Buffel.

The Gers tried to attack Aberdeen and had some great chances with Chris Burke perhaps having the best one when he missed the target with an open goal.

But they couldn’t get on the scoresheet and Aberdeen held on for the victory.

With Hibernian demolishing Livingston 7-0 at Easter Road Rangers slipped back down to fourth place and it’s clear they are a club in turmoil.

Not good news with games coming up this month again Celtic (this weekend), Hibernian and Villarreal.
