Rangers manager Steven Gerrard held his first official pre-match press conference yesterday as our preparations for tonight’s big kick-off against FC Shkupi in the First Qualifying Round of the Europa League continue.

The first-leg at Ibrox kicks off at 7.45pm this evening and it will be Gerrard’s competitive debut in the dug-out and hopes are certainly high for the game, as they are his tenure as our gaffer.

For anyone interested in the bulk of what he had to say to the assembled press, you can follow the press conference itself.

One quote, in particular, stood out to many though and that was where he spoke about how easy his team talk would be for the game given our experiences in the competition at this stage last year. I’m sure he’ll actually do more than this given the importance of the game as he’ll obviously have a desire to get off to a bright start and keep the feel-good factor going at the club.

But it shows he more than understands what last year’s disappointment meant to the fans, so he’s done his homework. Again it demonstrates he ‘gets’ the expectations and the pressure he’s under to achieve.

Music to the ears of many.
