Gerrard’s exciting Rangers transfer update will have fans primed for a massive summer

|

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is clearly looking forward to the summer transfer window, believing the club are well placed to attract ‘exciting’ talents to Ibrox next season, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

Since losing to Celtic at the end of last month, Gerrard has been building towards the 2019/20 campaign, giving previous fringe players opportunities in the first-team and getting to work on identifying transfer targets.

Three impressive victories over Motherwell and Hearts in recent weeks have helped rebuild some good feeling amongst supporters, who themselves must now be eager to see what kind of players may be coming to the club over the next few months.

Gerrard spoke about the issue in the wake of Saturday’s win at Tynecastle, telling The Scottish Sun:

We have put ourselves in an exciting and attractive position for certain people. If you are a player looking in now, you are probably thinking there is something brewing there.

Can I be that player to go and make the difference? People talk about the nine-in-a-row era and Celtic’s dominance lately.

Can you imagine being part of a Rangers group that is the next successful group? Because if you get one, I think it will be just as important as for the people who had to do it for nine.

We feel we are an attractive place for exciting players to come and help us. The challenge for me is to get them over the line. The Celtic team that stopped Rangers’ ten is still regarded as being up there with their great teams. That’s the way it is up here.

The planning has already well begun. It never stops.

It’s all about adding quality to the squad that is already at Ibrox rather than making wholesale changes to the squad like the last few summers.

That stability should set us up well for the coming campaign that Gerrard clearly feels could be a historic one for the club.

Consistent creativity remains an issue in the team that must be resolved, while adding depth to defence must be a real priority with Joe Worrall heading back to parent club Nottingham Forest.

Clearing out some of the deadwood in the wider squad must also be a priority, potentially freeing up more of our budget to allow Gerrard to deliver the stars he needs.

It’s not going to be quiet summer, that’s for sure.
