Steven Gerrard has shut down any talk of Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos leaving Ibrox this January, as reported by The Scottish Sun.
It was reported last week that French Ligue 1 outfit Nice had tabled an £8m offer for the Colombian forward, sparking fan anxiety that he could be on the verge of a Rangers exit.
However, manager Steven Gerrard has moved to reassure supporters that no offers have been made, giving the media short shrift in trying to get a transfer story out of him this weekend.
Asked if Morelos would be sold if a big bid was lodged, as quoted by The Scottish Sun, the Gers boss said:
What’s huge? You tell me, you’re the one who wants to know about it. Eight figures?
No-one has made a bid first and foremost and no one has made a bid of that number. So at the moment, the only people who are interested in it is you guys.
All we’re interested in is playing football and all Alfredo is interested in is winning football matches and scoring goals.
Clearly journalists smell a big story in the final few days of the January transfer window but Gerrard has made it clear that unless huge money is offered, the 21-goal striker will be going nowhere mid-season.
Losing him in the middle of the title race would be a bitter blow to our chances of major honours this term and although it’s inevitable that he one day moves on, the change must happen in a summer transfer window.
Thankfully Gerrard and the club appear to be well aware of all that. Fingers crossed no cash rich club tries their hand before the end of January.
