Gerrard urges Rangers board to take drastic, immediate action after defeat at Celtic Park

|

Steven Gerrard will ask the Rangers board to not only fine striker Alfredo Morelos, but also to donate that fine to the travelling supporters at Celtic Park today, as reported by The Daily Mail.

The Colombian picked up his fifth red card of the season against the Hoops, elbowing opposition midfielder Scott Brown after an off the ball incident.

The lack of discipline simply isn’t good enough and it’s clear Morelos’ behaviour will not change unless Gerrard and the club step in with drastic action.

And that’s what the manager has proposed after the match.

As quoted by The Daily Mail, the Gers boss said:

No more. I’ll continue to protect, support and love him (but) I’ve got to draw the line.

He’ll be punished and I’ll recommend to the board he’s fined a week’s wages. That fine should go to the supporters that came today.

There’s no doubt that Brown deliberates antagonises Celtic opponents and it’s also true that Morelos wasn’t the only player to lose his discipline today.

However, this isn’t the first time the 22-year-old has let us down and despite his 29 goals this season, it’s a situation that cannot continue without a solution.

In almost every big match this season he’s either performed poorly or simply lost his head and ultimately it has cost us points and trophies.

Hopefully he takes the fine on board and understands if he wants to be a top level player, he needs an attitude to match his ability.
