Former Rangers forward Umar Sadiq, who was signed by manager Steven Gerrard, has bizarrely criticised the Ibrox boss for never giving him a fair chance when on loan from Roma, as reported by The Sunday Post.

It’s fair to say that Sadiq was a massive flop at the club having arrived to bolster our attacking options in support of Alfredo Morelos.

He played just four times for the club, starting for the only time in the League Cup semi-final against Aberdeen at Hampden.

The 22-year-old has since moved to Perugia on loan in Serie B but isn’t finding much success there either.

The forward is still bitter about his time at Ibrox too.

As quoted by The Sunday Post, he launched a tirade against Gerrard:

I didn’t even have any time to settle down before they brought in another striker, Kyle Lafferty. That was when the problems started, and my situation soon degenerated into a real nightmare.

All of a sudden, I was told that I could not use the first-team dressing-room any more. Instead I had to go change with the kids.

Then, after a few days, I was also forbidden to park my car inside the training centre.

I felt humiliated and kept asking what was the reason for the change of attitude. But I never received any answers. Gerrard wouldn’t give any explanation about it, neither to me nor my representatives.

I believe absolutely that I was not given a fair chance to show what I can do. They made me feel like a stranger.

Clearly we’re only hearing one side of the story here and it’ll be interesting if Steven Gerrard comments on the issue in his upcoming press conferences.

Ultimately Sadiq did not produce the goods on the field and in fact looked well below the required standard, so it’s not really a surprise to hear that Gerrard excluded him from training too.

Some signings are just not the arrival advertised by clubs and agents and you have to write them off.

Sadiq will go down as one of our worst signings in recent years and no amount of press criticism of the club and of Gerrard will change that.
