Scott Arfield is blown away by how good fellow Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara has been since signing in January, as reported by The Scottish Sun.
The Finnish international joined for a fee of just £50,000 from Dundee in January after the club had already secured his future on a pre-contract basis.
Since then he’s gone on to make 14 appearances and become a key member of Steven Gerrard’s starting eleven, dazzling fans and pundits with dominant midfield displays that point to a very bright future at Ibrox.
He’s clearly impressed his teammates too, with Arfield full of praise for him this week in the wake of a fifth consecutive league victory.
As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the midfielder said:
Glen for 50 grand is the biggest steal of the century. He’s come in and he’s took to life.
In terms of coming from Dundee with no expectation on him, but in terms of how he plays the expectation arises because he’s such a good footballer, and he’s kept that going.
You’ve got (Ryan Jack) in there, (Greg Docherty) down at Shrewsbury and coming back with a good rep.
(Jordan) Rossiter has been the same, (Ross) McCrorie, (Graham) Dorrans coming back so in terms of the whole midfield package it’s fantastic to see.
It’s exactly what you want, competition for places but when you’re in there you’ve got to take the opportunity and keep it.
The midfield is certainly looking bright right now and it’s what you’d expect from a manager who made his name in the game in the heart of Liverpool’s team for over a decade.
Still just 23 years of age, Kamara appears to be an all-rounder who will star consistently for us next season. His emergence as a first pick in the starting eleven means Gerrard can concentrate on other areas of the team in the upcoming transfer window.
It also highlights the value that may be available in the Scottish Premiership, as Gerrard and Director of Football Mark Allen continue to sign up the best the division has to offer.
