Our tie with Villarreal was, for the most part, a good one for us. Though a win would have been ideal, a draw still keeps us in contention, and whilst progression is far from assured, we’re still hopeful that Steven Gerrard’s men will pull it out of the bag.
In truth, the major negative takeaway from the game surrounded Daniel Candeias. The 30-year-old was sent off during the game for a second bookable offence, and it’s certainly fair to say that he can consider himself unfortunate.
Now, Steven Gerrard has delivered his verdict on the decision, and he’s come out in support of the winger. Clearly, Gerrard is placing no blame upon his shoulders, and it’s evident that it will have no bearing on any future involvement.
SG: I feel for Daniel Candeias, he has been immense for us. In this situation, Daniel gets my full backing and hopefully, he is ready for the weekend.

Candeias has been one of our best players this season, and with 3 goals already this term, he’ll no doubt continue to be influential as the campaign continues.
Unfortunately, the sending-off means that he’ll miss out final game in the group, which is a big blow.
Still, at least he’ll be available in the league, and if anything, that will simply make him fresher and more able to make an impact domestically. Clearly, Gerrard is looking on the bright side – and we need to as well.
Thoughts?
