We’re really looking to the ‘Gers tie with Spartak Moscow this evening. We’ve done well in Europe as of late, and if Gerrard is able to take us further we’ll be delighted.

Tonight’s game won’t be easy, though. Spartak are a tough opponent with bags of quality, and they’re often resolute and hardened when defending – and they’re potent going forward.

Ahead of the game, Steven Gerrard has given us an idea of his plan for the game, and it’s looking like we won’t be forced to hide behind the sofa amidst a wave of defending.

“We don’t want to play in a shell like we did in the first 45 in Villarreal”, Gerrard said.

He continued: “We want to start well here and show what we can do to hopefully get a good result”.

Clearly, Gerrard wants to take the game to the Russian outfit, and that’s exactly what we need to do. The last thing that we want is to sit back and hope to catch them on the counter-attack.

It makes much more sense for us to go at them and attack – as our players going forward certainly have the ability to do just that.

That also gives us the chance to score a few goals and add to our confidence levels. Let’s hope it works out.
