Gerrard returns for £7m man but has bid rejected by Belgian giants

Rangers have reportedly had an offer for Kemar Roofe rejected by Anderlecht as Steven Gerrard returns for the player he missed out on last summer.

According to Rangers News, the rumour has emerged from Belgian sources that the £7million summer signing for Vincent Kompany’s side is once again being targeted by the Ibrox side as they look to add reinforcements to the attack.

There had been earlier stories of Roofe being lined-up as a replacement for Alfredo Morelos but the nature of this deal – a loan with an option to buy – would suggest that he is wanted to supplement the goal threat of the Colombian international.

With seven goals and three assists in 17 appearances for the Belgians, he has performed admirably when he has been available, however, ankle and calf injuries played a major role in curtailing his impact.

Where does Rangers "target" Lyndon Dykes current play his football?

Roofe is capable of playing in any of the forward positions but would more than likely play in the troublesome right-hand side of attack and, when needed, through the middle to cover Morelos.

It is certainly one of the most exciting prospects of the transfer window so far given the quality that the former Leeds United player would bring to Ibrox and more than fits the profile that Gerrard alluded to where he revealed that strengthening the first XI is now a priority.

A front three of Ryan Kent, Morelos and Roofe would certainly be one that would be an attractive proposition for Rangers fans, and would be one guaranteed to get them on the edge of their seats – be that at Ibrox, or in the comfort of their own homes, for the time being at least.
