We’re just hours away from the Steven Gerrard era at Rangers officially getting underway.

FK Shkupi of Macedonia will be the first side to face Gerrard’s side in competitive action tonight at Ibrox, as the Gers launch their campaign to qualify for the UEFA Europa League this summer.

It’s a hugely exciting day for supporters, who are hoping that the club can exorcise the demons of last summer and Pedro Caixinha’s failed attempt to make an impact in European competition.

Ahead of tonight’s encounter, Gerrard has provided injury updates on three players, confirming that midfielder Jordan Rossiter will miss the game because of an ankle injury.

The manager also confirmed Lee Wallace is injured, after he was excluded from the UEFA squad list for the tie.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, the manager reckons Rossiter will be out for a number of weeks due to his injury, with Graham Dorrans also a couple of weeks away from a return to the first team.

Rossiter’s injury is a real shame. Just when he was returning to full fitness after a long-term absence, he has now picked up a new, separate injury unrelated to the problems that have plagued his career at Ibrox so far.

Noted by Gerrard to be one of the top performers in pre-season, it’ll be interesting to see if the midfielder can finally make the impact fans have been waiting for since arriving from Liverpool two years ago.
