Gerrard opens up on two attacking arrivals at Rangers this summer

|

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is looking forward to Jake Hastie and Jordan Jones arriving at the club this summer, believing it will give his team a crucial attacking edge, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

Both players have already signed pre-contracts to join up with the squad at the end of the season and will both be reporting for pre-2019/20 training ahead of the upcoming European qualifiers.

The wingers are both excellent Scottish Premiership performers and the manager feels they will add something his team has been missing this season.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, Gerrard said of the duo:

I think when you get a job the size of this you obviously want to make the team strong and as successful as quick as you can.

But you’ve also got to look for the deals out there that are going to help your squad be stronger and also maybe players that are going to help the club for many, many years.

When those players become available you’ve got to strike and I think Jordan Jones and Jake (Hastie) give us more options in the final third.

They give us pace, they give us power, they can both create and score.

I think at important times in the season when I’ve looked to change options or bring people off the bench I think we’ve lacked a little bit of quality in the final third.

That’s the idea and reason behind it. Two players with big potential so hopefully they’ll come here and fulfil it.

This new attacking depth on the flanks could be the difference between drawing and winning matches, with that inability to get over the line in games being a key problem throughout this season.

Having a player who can make an impact from the bench is crucial and clearly Gerrard feels both of these signings immediately add that, with the hope they can become regular starters with a bit of time and development.

On days like today you don’t think much about depth in the squad, with stand-outs like Scott Arfield and Ryan Kent making the headlines. However, in a long season, acquisitions like this will massively help our quest for major honours.
