Gerrard on brink of his next Rangers signing – two more could be on their way after that

|

Rangers are on the verge of signing attacker Greg Stewart on a pre-contract basis, as reported by The Evening Times.

The contract of the Birmingham City man, who is currently on loan at Aberdeen, is due to expire at the end of the season and Steven Gerrard’s recruitment team have been consistently linked with him over the last couple of weeks.

The Evening Times say Gerrard is closing on his man, potentially also adding Jake Hastie and John Souttar to his squad in short order.

Stewart has scored nine goals and assisted ten times this season, the vast majority of which came in the first half of the season out on loan at Kilmarnock, before making a January switch to Aberdeen.

He’s had a far less successful time at the Dons, but Rangers are clearly impressed enough with his Rugby Park form to think he can be a real creative force in Steven Gerrard’s attack.

Stewart will have plenty to do to win over fans, many of whom were unimpressed with his Sunday semi-final performance against Celtic at Hampden.

Can Gerrard bring out the best of the 29-year-old?
