Steven Gerrard commented today on the departure of Neil Lennon as Celtic manager.

An official statement by the Parkhead club this morning brought down the curtain on a turbulent time for Lennon amidst massive pressure and even abuse from his own fans.

Their defeat to Ross County on Sunday evening meant that the gap at the top of the Premiership was extended to 18 points, requiring just a seven point swing for Rangers to be crowned champions.

At the press conference ahead of the game against Royal Antwerp tomorrow, Gerrard stated when questioned on the Lennon news:

“I can’t say I’m surprised because of obviously what has been going on over there (at Celtic) but I take no personal satisfaction from seeing that news on Neil or to any fellow manager that it happens to, so I wish him well for the future.”

“I only really found out about it this morning.”

“But, the focus for me is on the game tomorrow.”

Dominance

Without a doubt, Gerrard and Rangers have turned the screw on their rivals this season, regardless of the implosion in the east end of Glasgow.

The Gers dominated Celtic in the 0-2 away victory, back in October, with Connor Goldson helping himself to a brace.

In the New Year game, Rangers didn’t record a shot on target but still won the game – despite claims of Celtic ‘dominance’ in the 1-0 home win.

With significant pressure in place, Gerrard and his coaching team have enabled the Gers squad to deliver – so far they have done that with aplomb.

That fact is a massive contrast to Lennon’s Celtic, who have had a catastrophe of a season, from their meek double elimination in Europe, to the League Cup exit to Ross County, to the farcical Dubai trip as well as the conduct of their fans off the pitch in relation to all of the above and more.

Another one bites the dust.
