Only at Rangers could you be sitting top of the league and still have everyone complaining.

If ever there was an indicator that we are truly back this must be it, not winning the league last season, our players and managers are held to a higher standard than the rest and it is a factor that they simply have to deal with – even a great like Ally McCoist was never far from criticism during his Light Blues career and he ended up with 355 goals to his name.

It’s another Rangers goalscoring great that is currently under fire though as Alfredo Morelos looks to rediscover the touch that has seen him amass 99 goals so far since arriving in Scotland four years ago, one of his poorest displays in front of goal against Hearts being a contributing factor to Steven Gerrard’s side dropping two points with the gaffer looking to coach, rather than criticise, one of his key players during an obvious dip in form, as reported by The Scottish Sun:

“I don’t think he’s at his best.

“But he’s still getting into the areas and he’s still getting chances.

“He must have had four or five. We need to maybe sharpen him up and get him to that next level and I’m sure the goals will come.

The 25-year old has five goals and two assists from his 15 appearances this season, a goal every 214 minutes a far cry from his usual standard, perhaps more worrying is his return of just two league goals in eight games at nearly a goal every 300 minutes – not the sort of numbers a Gers centre-forward should be producing.
Gerrard will be frustrated that we finally appear to have turned the corner in terms of performance but are failing to put teams away, it may be that he makes a subtle change in his forward line and gets two strikers in as often as possible to at least increase his side’s chances of putting games to bed quicker.
Morelos has always been a streaky player in terms of goalscoring and now would be a good time for him to rediscover his touch with a massive run of games coming up between now and the winter break, the gaffer is right, he is getting into good positions but how long will Gerrard tolerate him squandering opportunities?
