Rangers are considering signing Derby County defender Max Lowe this summer, according to The Daily Record.

The paper say Steven Gerrard has made contact with former England teammate and current Derby boss Frank Lampard about a potential move to Ibrox.

Lowe has impressed on loan at Aberdeen this season making 41 appearances for Derek McInnes’ side in all competitions.

The Dons are understandably also keen on signing him again ahead of the new season, although Lampard is said to be uninterested in letting the £315,000-rated star leave the English Championship outfit on a permanent basis.

As a loan option we could do a lot worse this summer with the 22-year-old certain to add Scottish Premiership quality back-up in support of Borna Barisic.

Our transfer resources will be stretched pretty thin in the upcoming transfer window in other areas of the pitch and if we can add quality depth to the defence with a budget loan move then I’m all in favour of it.

  • Rangers adopting Celtic tactics in signing players they feel a threat from, WAKE UP ALL YOU YOUNG TALENTED PLAYERS, YOU EITHER WANT TO PLAY FOOTBALL OR BE A BENCH PLAYER OR WORSE, Funny how a club of Alleged standing in world football chase every FREE PLAYER EITHER TO SIGN OR GET A LOAN DEAL DONE, “PITIFUL” GLASGOW RANGERS AND EMBARRASSING TO SAY THE LEAST, “SHAME ON YOU”

    • Sour grapes and paranoia from a team who’d rather speak out about rangers than their own child abuse

    • Another case of Smeltic fans opening their mouths without thinking, totally blinkered in their views.
Acusing Rangers of signing loan deals while doing the same thing themselves. Benkovic, Burke, Toljhan, Weah, Roberts in the recent past and more, full of wind and p*sh that mob.
You are Scotland’s Shame. …Sweep Sweep

  • Shame is allowing young boys to be sexually assaulted for years by, known Paedophiles. Not to mention re-hiring one after his jail sentence. A totally disgusting club that should have been punished for allowing the abuse to continue.

  • I think loan deals are a great idea but having too many players in the squad who don’t play only hurts them and Scottish football. Buy the 20-25 you think will make up your core, loan 4-5 stars who you can’t really afford. And loan out your young talents who are not ready to play 1st team. I’m not sure max would be good enough to play for Rangers regularly right now but do believe he could grow into a great defender given the chance of regular football.
