Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has personally intervened in an attempt to sign Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall on loan this summer, as reported by The Daily Record.

The paper say that the Ibrox boss made contact with the Tricky Trees at the weekend to give assurances that the defender will get the game time he needs this season, after the 21-year-old fell down the pecking order at the City Ground.

Gerrard is said to be a massive fan of the player having watched him on a number of occasions last season and apparently sees him as the missing puzzle piece in his defence.

The Record reckon that discussions are so advanced that the player could even make his debut against Celtic this week, with Gerrard eager to push through the deal today.

The Gers are in need of a defender in the closing days of the transfer window with back-up to Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic non-existent.

Rated at £7.2m by Transfermarkt, Worrall may be young at 21 years of age but he already has over 70 professional appearances to his name including over 50 in the English Championship.

His potential is highly rated enough to have won caps for England’s U21 side.

Are the club about to make another stunning summer signing?
