Few can argue against the fact that Rangers have significantly improved the playing squad with January’s double capture of Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis, and manager Steven Gerrard is rightly pleased with his business in the window so far.

With both players now with the group and beginning to settle in following their arrivals as the players enjoy a warm weather training camp out in Tenerife, Gerrard had significant praise for both arrivals as he spoke to the Daily Record recently and fans themselves will know exactly what Davis will bring to us following his spell at Ibrox six odd years ago.

There was one telling quote in the above linked piece that stood out to me, and I think in many ways it says so much about two of our summer captures, without actually saying anything.

“When you think we’ve replaced Umar Sadiq and Ovie Ejaria with these two, I’m very pleased with the business we’ve done.”

Neither were a roaring success as fans know all too well, but it’s obvious what Defoe and Davis can bring to the party that they didn’t manage to.
