Gerrard in Rangers transfer hint as he reveals plans to address “firepower” shortage

|

Steven Gerrard has given his biggest hint yet as to what his shopping list might contain as he looks to add quality over quantity in his attempts to win his first silverware as Rangers Manager, according to a report in The Daily Record.

The Gers struggled to break teams down after the winter break and it looks as though Gerrard and Ross Wilson have identified targets that could share the burden with Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe on the goal scoring front.

Speaking after the 2-0 friendly victory over Nice, Gerrard said:

“Hopefully you will see some additions if we can pull off what we are trying to do in the transfer market.

“It was quite evident after the winter break, when we were getting suspensions or Jermain had his injuries, that we lacked a bit of firepower. So that is definitely one area we are looking at.

“I don’t want to put a number on it because if we don’t get them in people will maybe say we have failed.

“I don’t think it is the right time to put pressure on the board as they have been very good to me over the last two years.

“But we have targets in certain areas and the idea is to make quality signing that can come in and improve the starting 11.

“It is not about making the squad bigger in terms of numbers.

“We are at a stage where we need quality to make the team bigger.”

Several fringe players have already left the club and, as the Ibrox side’s gaffer alludes to, he will now turn his attention to players who can improve the first team, but rumours have been few and far between outside of the usual suspects in recent weeks.

From which club did Rangers sign Brian Laudrup?

He has already stated his desire to retain the services of Alfredo Morelos so the next week or two could provide some pleasant surprises if the current trend of announcing signings without so much as whisper from the Scottish press continues.
