Rangers manager Steven Gerrard believes the club is ready to striker for the quality players he needs to turn the side into a title-winning force next season, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

The paper say the Ibrox boss is desperate to add a creative midfielder to his squad ahead of the new campaign, having already captured Jordan Jones and Jake Hastie to bolster the wide areas.

With our pre-contract business mostly completed, Gerrard is now focusing on bigger deals down the line.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he commented today on last summer’s business and what he wants this time:

We felt as if we needed big changes in a lot of areas and we wanted to freshen it up with a lot of newness because we felt it was broken and fractured in certain areas as a club, the feeling.

There was a lot of negativity around so that was the reason we made a lot of changes.

We feel as if we’ve got a decent squad here, a good team. But to get to the next level now we feel it’s about having quality.

At the moment we can only strike for the frees that are out there, for the pre-contracts which we’ve done.

When the window opens we want to go and strike for the areas of the pitch where we feel that we need real quality to take us to the next level as well.

It’s certainly an exciting time to be a Rangers fan, with most believing we already have a squad and a first-team that can improve over the summer and compete for major honours.

Adding that extra quality is key though and clearly the manager is looking to delight supporters with some big signings over the next few months.

I can’t wait to see who might be coming to the club.

What kind of player do you want Gerrard to sign this summer? Share your thoughts in the comments below…

  • We already have a pretty good team, as we showed when outclassing Celtic today. However–we all know that Celtic are useless in Europe–and we want to be among the best in Europe–able to get to quarter finals and semi finals of the Champions League. That requires more quality. We need at least one quality centre half (to supplement Katic and Goldstein), we need a world class creative midfielder, we need a left back, and we need another striker to be used, as Defoe is good, but not , at his age , fit enough to play for 90 minutes in every game. I assume that Morelos will be sold (I hope so–as he is NOT A TRUE RANGERS MAN), and so the money that we get for him will all have to go towards replacements–and maybe a bit more added by the Directors.

  • On sportscene I can’t believe Michael is really speaking his mind over Rangers & celtic for a change omg,the gers just over powered celtic but u got jon say celtic looked bla bla bla so I give Mike his dew he told the truth, now u tell me what any old firm don’t matter??every old firm matters win or lose, even s,Thompson was God smacked & he did nout as a gers player??cum on Sutton &stubs I remember u 2 in a well loosing celtic side back in the day,ur guard of honor that’s what use get as I new &bet the gers to win sunday

  • I think we definitely need a quality left back who’ll play consistently. I’d still keep a hold of Barisic because I believe he has quality and he’ll eventually come good. We need a centre back to come and deputise for Goldson and Katic. Someone with experience. I can’t help but wonder what the league would look like had Stevie stuck with Katic over Worrall, that Kilmarnock back pass to the keeper still haunts me. An out and out right winger would be good or you could even push Tav up the park and integrate young Houston into the side. And obviously more striking options would be ideal. But the quality and squad is there, 4 or 5 strong signings and we’ll take it next year. We’re on the up while they’ve got players leaving and don’t seem to have a clue who’ll be running their show next.

A left back (Greg Taylor at Kilmarnock would be a steal for me)
A centre back (someone with experience at a top level)
    A right winger
A forward thinking midfielder (Lewis MacLeod?)
And 2 more options for up front

6 players that’ll get us to #1 in the league this time next year.
