Gerrard drops exciting summer transfer hint that should please every Rangers fan

|

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is on the hunt for a creative ‘number 10’ midfielder in the upcoming summer transfer window, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

The Ibrox boss offered candid thoughts in the wake of Saturday’s draw at home to Kilmarnock, a result that means we have dropped ten points behind league leaders Celtic.

Not backing away from criticism, he has admitted he hasn’t got everything right at the Gers since taking the job last summer, believing that errors have been made in the transfer market as much as any other department.

He’s determined to get things right though, telling The Scottish Sun about his future plans:

The reality is, in the market we are in, you’re going to make a few mistakes or get some wrong.

Now it’s more about trying to identify people who are going to make a difference in the 11 rather than trying to make the squad
stronger.

A No 10 was an area we tried but maybe targets you’re after aren’t available or with the funds available you can’t make that happen.

But it’s definitely an area we’re looking at and I predict that could change in the short-term. Short-term, for me, is the next window.

The lack of a creative midfielder is definitely what is frustrating supporters most right now so everyone will be pleased to hear that’s a priority for the manager heading into the summer window.

With major honours looking very unlikely again this season we can’t afford to have poor recruitment ahead of next season, with Celtic probably not going to rest in their search for new players either.

Hopefully Gerrard and Mark Allen can attract the right kind of quality to Ibrox, because we really need new ideas in that starting eleven if we’re to compete at the top end of Scottish football consistently.
