Gerrard delighted by Rangers cash boost – now eyeing more signings

|

Steven Gerrard is delighted to have helped Rangers post healthy financial figures this season after the club announced a £5.2m profit in the six months to December 2018.

The financial results were posted on Monday, revealing that the Gers had increased revenue for the period from £15.8m the previous year to a massive £35.3m.

The reason for such a climb is chiefly due to participation in the group stages of the UEFA Europa League with the Gers banking money for six sell-out matches in the competition, including qualifiers.

Gerrard is absolutely delighted to have played such a big role in delivering big for the club on and off the pitch and is now eager to see his first-team squad improve even more.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the Ibrox boss said:

I am really pleased for Dave King and the board. It shows that we are doing the job to the best we can and we are doing things a bit brighter.

My job and my focus is on the pitch. We will keep trying to be as successful as we can and push forward and improve. If we do that, everything off the pitch will look after itself.

I did realise how important European football was for finances when I came in.

I’ll say it again, the recruitment never stops. We are at a club and in a competition where you have always got to try and improve.

And that means making changes, moving people out and trying to bring better players in.

That is what we will always try and do and one thing I can say is that Dave and the board have been a tremendous help to myself and the staff.

There’s still plenty of work to do this season of course but the Summer transfer window is looming large, with many expecting Gerrard to again make a raft of changes to his first-team squad to help in the fight against Celtic.

With uncertainty now rife across the city, we are in an excellent shape to capitalise from a position of strength and hopefully the increase in revenue and profits allows us to invest even more in the first-team.

Hopefully the manager can again inspire us to reach the group stage of European competition next season, freeing up even more resources.
