Rangers fans are eager to see Greg Docherty return to Steven Gerrard’s squad this summer after he scored again on loan at Shrewsbury Town this week.
The 22-year-old scored in a 3-2 defeat to fellow English League One side Oxford United on Monday.
It’s the 21st time he’s made a direct goal contribution this season, netting 10 goals himself and assisting on 11 occasions at the Shrews.
That’s an exciting return for a central midfielder and many feel it’s a creative contribution that could be a big boost to Gerrard’s team when his loan expires at the end of the season.
We’ve been missing that kind of ambition from midfield positions throughout this season and Docherty appears to be the kind of player that will look to make runs beyond his attacking teammates and deliver a final ball or score himself.
Competition will be fierce for places, but with Lassana Coulibaly heading back to his parent club and others like Graham Dorrans nowhere to be seen, could Docherty make an impact in the squad?

Absolutely. Coulibally will be going back to France no doubt, so Docherty is pretty much a direct replacement in my view.

Aye. If Arfield continues in that new inside left role and even if we keep Davis, I don’t see him playing 60 games a season, so I think he’ll get game time. Up to him to prove himself to the gaffer now

Only one way to find out. Put him to the test now with better players around him. I get the feeling he’s a player that would rise to pressure and expectation.

100%, big season for him next year!

He has to fit in with a record like that – SG can’t afford to ignore such a creative player. GD couldn’t have done much more during the loan spell tbh. Glowing reviews.

Long term replacement for Arfield
