Gerrard and Allen take urgent steps to prevent English giants poaching Rangers talent

|

Ibrox youngster Josh McPake is to be offered a new contract at Rangers to ward off interest from Liverpool, as reported by The Daily Record.

McPake was one of the outstanding talents on display during the club’s Scottish Youth Cup win over Celtic at Hampden last week, named man of the match by the Scottish FA.

The 17-year-old winger appears to have bags of potential and The Record say clubs like Liverpool, Roma and Borussia Monchengladbach are all keeping tabs on the player.

Clearly manager Steven Gerrard and Director of Football Mark Allen are keen on keeping him at Ibrox and will try to sign him up to a new deal despite having a year left on his current contract.

It’s important we protect our best homegrown talents from clubs in bigger leagues looking to poach prospects and hopefully we can tie him down as soon as possible.

The smart money would be on him making a first-team appearance sooner rather than later.
