Ross Wilson will no doubt be prepared for bids for our best players this summer and will likely have a list of names for each position and each eventuality.

One player who Vital Rangers has already covered – should we need to replace a striker – is Georgios Giakoumakis, with the Greek international certain to be heading for the exit from VVV Venlo after they were relegated from the Eredivisie. They are also facing an uncertain financial future and will be looking to cash in on one of their biggest assets.

A source close to the club has revealed that Giakoumakis is available for sale, however, because of a sell on fee required to be paid to AEK Athens, the Dutch side are looking to get as much as possible for a striker that score 26 goals in 30 top flight games last season.

An initial valuation of £10million has since been revised and is now believed to be around the £5m mark, which, for example, if Rangers were to sell Alfredo Morelos for his £20m valuation would still represent good business.

Elite level goalscorers do not grow on trees, nor do they come cheaply, so to be able to get a player of Giakoumakis’s quality for that sort of price would be an achievement, the fact that we were paying that sort of fee 20 years ago on an almost yearly basis on strikers paints a picture in itself.

Who finished as Rangers top goal scorer this season?

His next move is likely to be his last big one given that he is approaching his peak years, the temptation of Champions League football could be too big to turn down – the waiting game now begins to see if a forward is added to Steven Gerrard’s shopping list with his current complement likely to be attracting interest from further afield over the coming weeks and months.
