The brother of Livingston goalkeeper Liam Kelly believes he could one day feature in the Rangers first-team after a long youth career at Ibrox that unfortunately resulted in zero senior appearances.

Kelly left the Gers this summer to seek first-team football elsewhere after the arrival of Allan McGregor and has since proved to be a stand-out in the Scottish Premiership.

He’s helped keep ten clean sheets in eighteen appearances, conceding just twelve goals in the process. Those are impressive numbers, even if Livingston set their eleven out defensively.

It’s form that one day could lead to an Ibrox return, reckons his brother Sean Kelly, who plays for Ross County.

Asked about a potential Rangers future for his shot-stopping sibling, Kelly told The Scottish Sun:

That’s a possibility, absolutely. There’s obviously a long way to go for that to happen, but Liam has the ability and mindset.

He never played a competitive first-team game at Rangers, but he was there for most of his life and loved the place. In an ideal world Liam would have stayed if he thought the opportunity would come along.

But I think he felt to play for Rangers he would have to go somewhere else to show he was good enough. Sometimes when you come through a club as a young boy you always get treated as a young boy.

You never really get treated as a first team player until you go somewhere else.

It’s always good to see academy players go on to play well at other clubs, especially when they’re young and ambitious enough to eye a future return to the Gers.

Fans got to see Kelly in action yesterday at Ibrox and while he did concede three goals, he also made a save or two which highlights the potential he has at just 22 years of age.

He’s one to keep an eye on for sure.
