One time Ranger Gennaro ‘Rino’ Gattuso has left Fiorentina just 23 days after he was appointed as head coach of the Tuscany club.

It has been claimed that a breakdown in the relationship happened due to an impasse on player recruitment, resulting in an abrupt parting of the ways.

Fiery, passionate, and explosive as a player – those traits have continued as a manager keeping a reputation firmly intact.

Gattuso departed Napoli at the end of the season, due to failing to qualify for a Champions League spot.

A last day 1-1 draw with Hellas Verona, at home, meant that the team from the San Paolo were resigned to a Europa League berth.

That led to Gattuso heading north to Florence but the ext adventure has ended before it really got started.

The World Cup winner was a Walter Smith signing back in 1997 but soon after he was discarded by Dick Advocaat in what was certainly an error of judgement from the Little General.

Ever since, Gattuso has spoken fondly of Rangers and Glasgow – where his wife grew up – and has returned to the club on different occasions.
