It was announced today that Rangers youth midfielder Cammy Palmer has left Ibrox to join Northern Irish champions Linfield on an 18 month contract.

Following loan spells at Orange County in California as well as Partick Thistle and most recently with Clyde, the youngster departs Ibrox to ply his trade in Belfast.

Linfield are managed by former Rangers striker David Healy who was said to be ‘delighted’ at the capture.

A Linfield statement from Healy read,

“I’m delighted to advise our supporters that we’ve signed 20 year old midfielder Cameron Palmer until the end of next season.”

“Cameron joins us from Rangers and the signing is subject to the normal international clearance formalities.”

“He is an English born player who has played for NI at Under 19 and Under 21 level and who has been out on loan at Orange County in the US and at Clyde.”

“Cammy is a player I know well and he will be an excellent addition to our squad.”

“I’m looking forward to working with him over the coming months.”

Interestingly, a comment from Rangers Head of Academy Craig Mulholland appears to allude to a buy-back or sell on clause in the deal.

In confirmation of the move he stated, “Everyone at Rangers would like to wish Cammy well on the next step in his journey.”

“Cammy is a fantastic young man, supported brilliantly by a very strong family unit and I am sure he will do very well at Linfield.”

“We are delighted that another young Rangers Academy player will move to a positive destination, working with an excellent Manager in David Healy, in an agreement which provides Rangers with good future opportunities from a playing and commercial perspective.

“Cammy will always be welcome back to Ibrox and we all wish him good luck in this new chapter in his career.”
