Former coach blown away by progress of Rangers stand-out

|

Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack is drawing plaudits from fans and pundits this week after an excellent performance away to Hearts at the weekend and a former coach is the latest to shower praise on the player, as reported by The Daily Record.

The 27-year-old scored his fourth goal of the season during the 3-1 win, part of an all-round display that helped his side to continue their recent excellent form.

Jack has been central to our recent resurgence in the Scottish Premiership, providing the platform for our more creative players to flourish and punish teams.

His former Aberdeen youth coach Neil Cooper always thought he would go on to become a classy midfielder and is impressed by the impact he is currently making at Ibrox.

As quoted by The Daily Record, he said:

Everyone involved with the set-up at Aberdeen knew Ryan would go on to be a top-class player.

He was very strong on the ball and didn’t get knocked off it very easily – and that helps him to keep possession and keep the game moving.

He has done fantastically well and Rangers have a really good player there.

Ryan was aware that you needed to work hard in everything that you do in terms of the ball work, the technique and possession as well as the ways to win it back for your team.

You give Ryan the ball under pressure with a man tight to him and you could see him turn and hold him off.

I’ve said it before but he reminded me of Jim Bett in the way he could do that.

Take a ball with someone close to him and be able to check back out and that bought a couple of extra seconds to get a pass away and keep the team moving.

Jack is undoubtedly one of the players who has improved most since Steven Gerrard arrived at the club, which is no surprise given his knowledge and expertise of the central midfield position.

The defensive hard work that Cooper describes is crucial to every team, even ones like Rangers which dominate possession in most games.

He is now coming into his peak playing years and growing more and more comfortable with his Gers role, is well placed to have a stand-out season next term.
