Fresh from signing his new contract, goalkeeper Wes Foderingham has said Rangers have a point to prove as we go into the first clash of the season against Celtic this weekend.

With more lows than highs in the Old Firm last season, Foderingham is keen to see Rangers put that record right and avoid a repeat as we look to better our final finish in 2017/18.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media to preview the game, Foderingham admitted the first clash was always the most tricky as it can set the tone for the year in terms of bragging rights.

‘This game is massive, the first Old Firm of the season is always the most difficult one because both sides are eager to get the win and get one up on their rivals. It is going to be no different this time around. There is no doubt about it last season we didn`t perform well against them, this season we need to improve on that and to improve we need to start with a win.’

Our number 1 went on to say that the squad didn’t just have a point to prove to the fans or the opposition, they had a point to prove to themselves.

‘As a team I think we have a point to prove to ourselves because we haven`t done ourselves justice in the games we played against them. We will start fast, like we have done in most of the game this season and I don`t see us having too many problems.’

The 26 year old is one of our longest serving members of the squad given the current crop and he feels that the gap between both sides is slowly shrinking, but victories over them can only help that.

‘The gap is getting smaller; there is no doubt about it. We strengthened in the summer and I think it will be more competitive this season. In games we should get closer to them, there is still a financial gap there but we have improved as a squad and we know what we are capable of so there is no reason why we can`t get the win.’

He ended by saying.

‘The Old Firm is a big occasion but we have brought players in who are capable and have played all across the world in big games. They have all come in and settled in fine and been really good. Alfredo is banging in the goals and hopefully he can get another couple on Saturday!’
