‘First class’ Rangers target great fit for Gerrard’s system

Scott Wright’s proposed move from Aberdeen to Rangers is looking likely, following the positive comments from Dons boss Derek McInnes on Rangers approach.

One man who knows the player well is Jim McIntyre, who managed Wright at Dundee during a loan spell a couple of seasons ago.

The former Dens Park gaffer praised the qualities and attitude of the Rangers target, as reported by the Daily Record.

McIntyre said, “Scott has a brilliant work ethic and has been schooled really well by Derek McInnes and Tony Docherty up at Aberdeen. He has been taught really good habits.”

“Things like always being last off the training ground, always in the gym because he was conscious of the need to get stronger.

“The speed and agility were there but he needed to add strength and he did it. He was great to work with, we could have done with more of his type at Dundee.

“What impressed me about him was the fact that he came into us at a difficult time. We were in a relegation fight and it was tough.

“It would have been much easier for a boy coming to a club which was winning all the time but we were in a battle and the way he took up the fight said a lot about his character.

“His attitude and desire was fantastic. That says a lot the way he’s been brought up at Aberdeen.

Good fit for Ibrox

Wright’s ex-manager continued and spoke of why he would be a good fit for Steven Gerrard’s brand of football. He outlined the player’s versatility and room for further development.

“He can play out wide but really likes the No.10 position behind the striker. I played him there and Derek has done that a lot this season.

“I think that’s where Scott sees himself playing in the future.

“He can play any of the three positions if you are going from three behind a striker, or he can fill the two wider positions if you are going for a front three. I wouldn’t put him in the centre-forward role but the one in behind, he’s very adept at that.

“He could be a good fit for the Rangers system, if that’s where he ends up. He’s got really good game knowledge.

“He’s a clever player who spots passes and you always felt there were more goals in him. That will come.”
