Ferguson and McGregor punishment is over

I was good to see today that the two Rangers players who disgraced themselves by their childish displays at the Scotland game have now served their punishment and Walter has said they will be available for selection.

His initial talks with them when he was very angry, and rightly so, saw him say to the lads that they would not be considered to play for the team they love again.

Given time and having reviewed the sitiuation in the cold light of day has made him rethink his initial statements. After a long discussion with the players he has said that they can again resume their duties.

Walter told the rangers website ‘I made the decision to act because I felt what they did was a poor reflection of Rangers Football Club overall.

‘I just feel that overall, if the initial situation and the subsequent parts had been handled better, the whole thing might not have happened.

‘That gives me the right to change my mind and all I’m doing is making them available for selection.’

Smith also criticised the SFA’s initial handling of the drinking session when six players breached rules but only Ferguson and McGregor were punished.

He said: ‘There were six players involved and two end up getting the majority of the blame.’The SFA have started a new trend in criminality – if you leave the scene of a crime early, you are not guilty.’

I for one am glad to see that this sorry affair can now be put to rest. They are not automatic selections for the team and will have to work hard to get back not only into Walters good graces but the fans that they let down by their actions.

There are many players for different clubs in the past who have done very stupid things and not been crucified as publicly as these two.

Lets hope now the dust will settle and Rangers can get on with what is important and that is playing football, and hopefully bringing the league title home.
