Rangers fans given insight to team preparation for Hearts game

The Rangers squad reassembled today after the international break for a training session with a difference.

Yes, the Ibrox gates were open to MyGers members and families who were able to get a close-up look at the players and staff going through their paces.

It was the first time in quite some time that an ‘open’ training session has taken place, whilst some would like to see a repeat of the ‘Rangers v Rangers’ training day game back in 1997, which saw the launch of the home and away Nike kits of that era, with Walter Smith being able to field two teams against each other in a practice match.

As for today, there were plenty of young kids in attendance and for many it will have been their first chance to get up close and personal with their heroes.

Steven Gerrard’s players will have benefitted from a different atmosphere and fan interaction in their day’s training, ahead of what will be a massive game against Hearts at the weekend.

Supporters who attended the event at the stadium today also enjoyed live interviews with players past and present, including Ian Durrant and Kris Boyd.

Broxi Bear was in attendance for the youngsters as well as some giveways in what will hopefully be an event to be repeated.

An open training session should be happening once or twice a season, in order to bring fans closer to the team, especially young kids and to give them an experience that isn’t possible on a matchday.
