Recent reports had suggested that Rangers were tracking Scotland’s Kenny McLean with a view to Summer Bosman switch but that talk will end today with news of a new contract for the Norwich City midfielder.
Despite being a decent player, a seasoned professional with international experience, this was not a link that camptured the imagination. At 30 years of age, McLean still has plenty to offer but he isnt what is most needed at Ibrox.
Those newspaper claims stated that ‘the midfielder is on Rangers’ radar with a potential pre-contract agreement an option with McLean out of his current deal in the summer,’ however it would be fair to say that this one has fallen off the radar so to speak.

McLean said of his new contract news:
“It’s something I’m really happy to get done. I’m really happy and settled at this football club and have made many happy memories here.”
Kenny McLean’s links to Ibrox will never truly go away given that he is a fan of the club, something that was part of his upbringing, as he previously told The Athletic:
“I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t something I’d want to do. As a kid that’s what you want to do, play for your boyhood team. Right now, I’m about to play in the Premier League again, so I’m not thinking about it! But for me and my family, it would be pretty special.”
“I grew up a Rangers fan, used to go to the games with my dad and as a kid in Glasgow, you support Rangers or Celtic and you want to play for one of them. So, I was on the better side.”
Deals
One of the initial pressing matters for the incoming Rangers manager will be to get business done in January. That applies to players coming in as well as out. There may not be a lot of money to spend but it is clear that the current squad needs help.
Kenny McLean will not be one of those players but the Bosman market is one that the club will be seeking to operate in. Value for money and smart business is an imperative, there is no time to waste.
