With Rangers moving through the gears in their SPFL Premiership title chase, they will also have to contend with the Europa League restart with intentions to go at least one better than the Last 16 outcome, last season.

The Gers front men are on form at present, with a welcome brace from Alfredo Morelos on Sunday v Aberdeen showing signs that he is getting back to his best form.

Games will come thick and fast over the next couple of months and with speculation linking forwards such as Jordan Jones and Greg Stewart with an exit, there could be a very attractive option at Everton for Rangers to swoop for, to add to their attacking options.

Yannick Bolasie is currently kicking his heels at Goodison Park. He was left out of Carlo Ancelotti’s 25 man Premier League squad for the first half of the season and is expected to move on this month.

The £3.15m rated DR Congo international, who spent last season on loan at Portuguese giants Sporting, would be available to Rangers on a pre-contract agreement now or he could sign a short-term deal with the carrot of an extended contract to be won.

Middlesbrough and Neil Warnock are known to be keen on the player but speaking recently, the veteran manager was coy on the possibility of a January move following the breakdown of a planned deal in October.

From the Liverpool Echo, Warnock said, “He’s (Bolasie) one of the names mentioned, and we are looking for a wide player that can contribute to some goals as well,”

“He’s one of those, and I obviously know him from my Palace days. I wouldn’t write him off, but at the same time, I wouldn’t say that he’s definitely going to be here either.”

One downside to a potential Ibrox deal is that Bolasie sees himself as a Premier League player and has gone on record to state this. After relatively unsuccessful loans, he is looking for his next club to be a permanent switch however the lure of potential Champions League football and silverware cannot be dismissed.

On January and his future, he said: “I want my next project to have long-term views. The problem when you go somewhere short-term is that it can be easy if things aren’t going well to just perform a clean sweep and you’re cast aside,” as reported by Teeside Live

“As for Middlesbrough, it depends on the long-term. You look and it’s clear that the short-term (aim) there is get to the Premier League. But if I’m only signing for six months, it just becomes another short-term again.”

“I don’t know if it’s 100% there now. Now it’s a totally different picture.”

“That was then, but it’s a different picture now and, at the end of the day, I see myself as a Premier League player.”

“So if there’s a chance to play and play somewhere in the Premier League I would have to look at it. Right now, we know of no Premier League interest, but there might be later on.”

“I’m just looking forward to it. If there’s a chance I can still go to Middlesbrough then I don’t know. I can’t tell the future. But, on my behalf, the things have to be right.

“It’s not just a case of, ‘ok, pack your bags and jump into this club like I have done the last three times’

“My fitness is fine and I’m ready to go. I’m ready to show I can play.”

At 31 Bolasie still has ability and plenty of offer. He could be the man to add extra firepower to Rangers glory chase.
