Rangers have confirmed early yesterday evening that centre-half Bruno Alves has now mutually agreed to terminate the remainder of his contract at Ibrox following discussions and agreement between himself and the club.

The 36-year-old Portuguese international moved to Ibrox last summer on a free transfer, and in his time with us he made a total of 21 starting appearances, with a further four showings from the bench. Across those games, he scored twice for us and also wore the skipper’s armband on six occasions.

Confirmation of his departure from the club wished him the best for his future and I’m sure given the calibre of player he was many will have their own fond memories even if the spell didn’t quite go as swimmingly as it could’ve done.

With Steven Gerrard coming in and looking for a more youthful backline it always seemed likely he would be off, so good to see that agreement was struck relatively quickly to both parties benefits as I doubt he’ll be hanging up his boots just yet.

In fact, I’ve seen it’s been confirmed he has now signed for Parma.

I’m slightly surprised social media didn’t explode at this confirmation – maybe I’m looking in the wrong place?
