“The fans should look forward to seeing the team play on the 15th of December.”

He was focussed, rational and eloquent as ever, but Michael Beale could barely contain his enthusiasm at the prospects ahead on his return to Rangers when he was presented at Thursday’s press conference in the Blue Room.

The new manager, the 18th permanent boss in the club’s history effectively repeated the key line above such is his determination to drive the team forward as has been evidenced on the training ground with a noticeably positive vibe apparent.

If any further evidence was required, just consider this response when asked about what a Rangers side in his image should look like:

“I think it’s got to be on the front foot. We want to play like the big team, be exciting to watch. I think the first thing, it has to be exciting to play in on a daily basis, it’s got to be about this group now. This group is slightly different to the one last time I was here. We’ve got to take the ball and we’ve got to attack.”

“I’d like to see us run forward a little bit more off the ball and play a little bit closer together. I’m really excited to work with this group and I think the squad is really strong. I think we will see a little variety.”

Exciting is very much the dominant theme expressed, reflecting the feeling from within the 42-year old Londoner.

He is very much intent on delivering a new look Rangers team moving forward, starting as he means to go on. It won’t come together in an instant but the upcoming game against Hibs will present the first impression and one that can set the tone based on two weeks on the training ground to get things moving in the right direction with the fans primed to follow.
