Exciting international striking prospect linked with a move to Rangers

|

Rangers have been linked with a January move for Iraq striker Mohanad Ali, as reported by The Daily Record (Live Transfer Blog, 13/01 14:44).

The 18-year-old international is in excellent form for his country at the ongoing Asian Cup, scoring goals against Yemen and Vietnam to help his team qualify from the group stages.

The Record report that Rangers have been in contact with his representatives about a potential loan move from his parent club Al-Shorta, who play in the Iraqi top-flight.

According to Transfermarkt he is already prolific at international level with eight goals in 12 senior caps, while a brief look at his Soccerway page would suggest he’s scored 23 goals over the last season and a half.

With Rangers boss Steven Gerrard speaking this week about the possibility of utilising two strikers in the same formation after the winter break, there may be a need to sign a fourth striker.

Ali may be unproven at a level recognised to us but if the contact is true, our scouts clearly see something in the player the points to him being effective in the Scottish Premiership.
