“Exceptional” youngster set for new Rangers deal as Gerrard ties down Premier League target

Rangers are looking to tie down one of their brightest prospects to a long-term deal with the news that Robby McCrorie is set to be offered a contract extension in a show of faith from the Ibrox club as reported by Football Insider.

The 22-year old keeper is very much seen as the natural successor to Allan McGregor between the sticks for the Gers but with the veteran going to be first choice for at least another season, McCrorie could repeat the move that saw him spend the second-half of the aborted season at Premiership side Livingston where Gary Holt branded the youngster as “exceptional“.

He played the first-half of the campaign with Queen of the South before the opportunity to step up a level presented itself, he performed admirably but the Ibrox hierarchy will want him to experience more top flight games before trusting him with the number one jersey – although with rumoured interest from West Ham they may have to accelerate his progress.

As McGregor has shown, it can be a long career as a goalkeeper and there is no rush to throw McCrorie into the spotlight and by rewarding his patience, it is an indication that he is still a valued member of the Rangers squad.
