Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has revealed he had harsh words for his team at half-time on Saturday.

The Gers went into the interval against St Mirren just one goal up from a penalty, before coming out in the second half and sticking three more goals past the Buddies.

The Ibrox boss was none too happy with the performance though.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said:

I don’t think it was good enough. There was an improvement in the second half, we created a lot more and their keeper made some fantastic stops. But I was disappointed in the first half.

We forgot the basics of football when you’re at a big club. Before you kick a ball you’ve got to work hard, press and be aggressive, but we looked a little bit lethargic.

When I walked into the dressing room, every set of eyeballs hit the floor — so I think I was right to ask for more.

Rangers haven’t quite hit their stride since the return from the winter break and while most results have been positive, you get the sense there is much more to come from Gerrard’s side.

His steely team talks in the dressing room seem to have a positive effect though and as long as he continues to get a reaction from the team we can feel positive about the direction we are heading in.

We will need to be motivated from the beginning against Aberdeen this Wednesday though, with trips to Pittodrie rarely easy.

Can Gerrard send out his team on the front foot from the off?
