His time at Ibrox is most fondly remembered for one particular goal, but Bert Konterman has paid tribute to the Rangers supporters and stated that their ‘admiration is unbelievable’.

The Dutch international player, who featured for the Netherlands at Euro 2000, is remembered and revered for his thunderbolt strike from 30 yards against Celtic, in the 2002 League Cup, semi-final.

Speaking to his former team-mate and friend, Arthur Numan, Konterman was happily recalling the reception that he still receives on visits to Glasgow.

The conversation was part of a promo for 5 Stars Ltd, a company that works with ex-Rangers players to bring them closer to the fans through events and personalised ventures. This chat was a small clip of their monthly subscriber video content, released on their Instagram page.

Konterman stated, ” Every time when I come over, I am overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and warmth of the fans. When you stand for a photo or a signature, I put my arm around them and the people are there beside me, shivering.”

“I mean I’m a 50 year old guy and I kicked the ball around a few times.”

“The admiration is unbelieveable. It is fantastic, I love it. That is why it is always great to be back in Scotland.”
