The young Gers made an emphatic statement on Saturday by slamming nine goals past a helpless Gretna side.

A hat-trick from Chris McKee and Tony Weston, respectively, was complimented by a double from Robbie Fraser and a solitary goal from Kane Ritchie-Hosler as the B team collected another three Lowland League points today after a strong performance against Gretna, at Dumbarton.

Charlie McCann and Alex Lowry were two other notable mentions for their effort and industry on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors actually took the lead, but after their goalkeeper was sent off, Rangers grabbed an equaliser and never looked back.

McKee’s hat-trick was completed within the first half and shortly after the interval, Fraser’s strike effectively ended the contest.

A hungry team continued to carry the threat, seizing the opportunity with five more goals secured.

VitalRangers believes that this season in the Lowland League will be good for the development of the young players.

Scorelines like this one aren’t likely to be too common and it is worth pointing out that the Gers youth side haven’t had it all their own way so far.

There will be downs as well the ups, playing in a senior league and getting important experience at a young age, but it is far too early yet to make a proper assessment on the initiative that sees both Old Firm clubs fielding a side in the division.

The development of the players is the priority, so let’s see how it goes.
