With Sky Sports reporting that Charlton have withdrawn their contract offer for striker Lyle Taylor, the door has been opened for Rangers to follow up their alleged interest now that the transfer window is open.

Taylor is out of contract in the summer and as such is available to sign a pre-contract with Rangers with immediate effect, the Addicks are believed to be looking to sell the player in this window though so that they can receive a transfer fee for the 6ft 2 inch forward.

The name may be familiar to fans of Scottish football as Taylor enjoyed successful spells at both Patrick Thistle and Falkirk during spells north of the border, he boasts impressive figures of 138 goals and 53 assists in 377 games overall as the 29-year-old looks for one final move before he enters the veteran stage of his career.

Manager Lee Bowyer didn’t take too well to the Light Blues picking up Joe Aribo for a pittance in the summer and this transfer would be equally as unpopular should the Glasgow side pull it off.

Should Rangers attempt to sign Lyle Taylor in January or on a pre-contract agreement?

Gers fans took to Twitter on hearing the news that Taylor is available and backed the signing in more ways than one.

There, of course, had to be a few Lee Bowyer gags in there somewhere too….
