Lee McCulloch has said that the scoreline in our game against Arbroath is not a fair reflection of the game itself.

Speaking to the Official Site after grabbing himself back to back hattricks in the league, the skipper said that the opposition had the better chances in the first half and could well have found themselves ahead before the break, even though they went on to open the scoring early in the second half through an Alan Cook curled lob over Cammy Bell and event though he was delighted with how Rangers responded and found the net themselves, he still thinks the scoreline actually flatters us given how hard Arbroath made it.

Bilel Mohsni obviously grabbed the leveller, then McCulloch helped himself to a hattrick with Andy Little also finding the net.

‘They scored and I think that is maybe what we needed, we then raised the tempo of the game but they are a good team, have good players and I know their manager personally and how hard he works. We got a wee bit of luck from big Bilel and that was the turning point. We then went on to score our five goals but to be honest I think the result flattered us a bit.’

However McCulloch did say that the way the team responded, especially as Ally McCoist included seven of our new signings, bodes well for the future as the team still have to click properly and it maybe gives us an insight into what could be in the future when everything does click.

As for grabbing his second consecutive hattrick, McCulloch admitted it was slightly surreal considering he had to wait until this season and the game against East Fife to score his first competitive hattrick. Having two come along so quickly has slightly taken him by surprise – especially as he’s now playing at centre half!

‘It’s a wee bit surreal, five of the goals have been headers. This big head keeps getting on the end of things!’

He added that Ally had joked in the dressing room that he once scored three hattricks on the bounce just to wind him up.

His final comments from the day came with praise for Andy Little who is starting to reproduce the form he showed last season. He’s also on a bit of a run himself having scored his fourth goal in as many games and it’s been a good return for the 24 year old having spent time out injured with a knock to his knee.
