Some Rangers supporters are losing faith in James Tavernier’s role as club captain after a few weeks of poor results and uninspiring performance.

Steven Gerrard has shown great faith in Tavernier by ensuring he remained the wearer of the armband after arriving as Ibrox boss.

With a lack of apparent communication on the pitch though, many fans feel he doesn’t have the leadership qualities required to push the Gers towards major honours in Scottish football.

There’s also the argument that with the 27-year-old installed as captain, it makes him harder to drop when he loses form, which has been pretty inconsistent of late.

As we head into another crucial derby against Celtic this weekend, all eyes will be on the right-back to see if he has the kind of stuff that we are looking for from a captain in these matches.

Can he lead by example?
