Late yesterday evening Rangers confirmed the signing of Greg Docherty from Hamilton Academicals.

With Rangers’ gaffer Graeme Murty confirming the other day that a deal was in place for the player between both clubs, all that remained was a medical and personal terms to be agreed and last night the final details were put in place and he was announced as the latest January signing.

The speculation at the time suggested the 21 year old would be with us by the Ross County game for a £680,000 fee and Murty said at the time he was unsure if it would be our final bit of business this month.

His fee however is officially undisclosed but he has signed a four and a half year deal.

Murty told the Official Site at the announcement.

‘It`s another bit of business for another young, hungry player desperate to enhance our group. When you see the players gelling and the improvements we`ve made, it`s an exciting time for players – and for me as a manager. I want to manage people who are hungry to improve.’

Docherty said himself of the move.

‘I`m speechless to be honest. It means so much and words can`t explain how much this means to me and my family as well. This club has a special place in my heart, so to be a part of something special is really exciting. For me to play for Rangers – and I`ve always dreamed of playing for Rangers during my career – but for it to come so early is just an extra bonus and when I heard of the interest, there was only one place for me.’

He went on to say.

‘It`s such an appealing platform – you look at the facilities which are second to none. I had a tour of the training ground today, and that`s incredible that everything is there for you to go on and kick-on even further. I want to be part of something special here, and I think that is the plan. That`s what was sold to me by Mark Allen etc. – they told about their five-year plan here to move on and get Rangers back where they belong.’

Speaking about himself as a player.

‘As a player, I`m direct, and I`d like to say I`m strong and a powerful runner that can contribute at the top end of the pitch. Hopefully I can contribute some assists and goals, and excite the fans a little bit.’

‘It`s an environment I think I`m going to thrive in, and I can`t wait to get started.’
