Derby delight for Brondby with important victory over Copenhagen

Following their Europa League defeat at Ibrox on Thursday, Brondby bounced back in the best possible way with a victory in the derby against FC Copenhagen.

They were 2-1 winners in the game, which takes Niels Frederiksen’s side into sixth place in the Superliga table.

The goals for Brondby came from Morten Frendrup and Andreas Maxsoe either side of half-time, with FCK responding with just one goal after the hour mark.

Our Group A opponents are in somewhat mixed form with two wins from their last five games, across domestic and European action, but they will feel that they have more to give in the return game at the Brondby Stadium, following an underwhleming performance at Ibrox last week.

On the vital three points, Frederiksen told his club website:

“There is always high intensity and many duels in a Derby. And then it was also a bit of what we went for. We did not go for a calm match, where one team stood low and defended, and then the other team got the ball and then vice versa.”

“We felt we had some other chances where we could have made it even more dangerous and I felt that we could have scored more.”

The showdown in Denmark promises to be a cracker, with Rangers wanting more of the same against their hosts who will be looking to strike back.

Another win for Steven Gerrard’s team followed with another win for Lyon against Sparta sets up the exciting prospect of Rangers being able to seal qualification against the Czechs on Matchday 5.

So much to play for but that will need to wait until next week, with two very important Premiership games to take care of first.
