Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst is on record regarding his satisfaction of signing up Connor Goldson on a new four-year contract.

With the Englishman’s services retained, a huge element of consistency is retained in the Rangers side, with obvious benefits from the stability that Goldson will bring. Had the opposite outcome materialised, it would have been one thing to replace his ability, but how can you buy that dependability and reliability? This very point is not lost on GvB.

The Dutch coach stated:

“I am delighted Connor has agreed to remain a Rangers player, as he has been fantastic for me both on and off the pitch since I arrived.

“His leadership is outstanding, and he is a huge influence on so many players around him, while his consistency of performance means he is someone I can always rely on.

“I am really looking forward to seeing Connor back for pre-season in a couple of weeks and to working with him again next year.”

Next level

With Goldson now moving into his fifth season at Ibrox at 29, there is an obvious familiarity but one way to push past that is to achieve more. The first opportunity for that comes with the early Champions League qualifiers. That is where the squad, coaches and fans want to be – that is the aim.

A good, fast start to the season is essential, hopefully with a few real quality additions on board. With the likes of Alfredo Morelos also getting closer to full fitness, there more intact the squad is, the better. Everything has to be geared toward that next level.

Goldson and Rangers have recently tasted relative success in Europe, the dizzy high of 55 was memorable and the recent Scottish Cup win was crucial and important for different reasons. The Ibrox number six is staying for more, to win and as outlined by Gio, his influence and example will go a long way to achieving more glory.
